Vault [2012]
In a series of recorded actions within central Pennsylvania, I utilize paint, pulleys, stage lighting, floating platforms, roadblocks, mirrors, and projections to challenge narratives of death and birth. Vault is both a verb for leaping or pushing upward and a noun for a secure room where valuables are safely kept. VE1 documents my dizzying to the point of nearly passing out and then attempting to navigate a “burial chamber” filled with traffic barricades. My incorporation of teal-turquoise is reminiscent of a color traditionally used to protect the body and soul.
